Did you know that May 21st is National Rivers Day – a day to inspire river stewardship across the country with clean ups and more? Here in Santa Cruz, we’ll be co-hosting the State of the San Lorenzo River Symposium, a cleanup on the lower San Lorenzo River and a beautiful outdoor concert at Singing by the River.
Kick off your day by giving back. Starting at 9:00 a.m. don your work gloves, sunscreen and closed toed shoes and meet the San Lorenzo River Alliance along the Riverwalk for a river cleanup between the Soquel Avenue and Laurel Street bridges. Email CWC Education Coordinator Mollie Behn to sign up today.
Then, stop by the State of the San Lorenzo River Symposium from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
at the Louden Nelson Community Center to hear presentations from local experts, agencies and community groups on the history and ecology of the San Lorenzo River and its lagoon. Following, a tour of the lagoon will follow the Symposium and will leave from the center shortly after 1:00 p.m. Many thanks to the City of Santa Cruz Water Dept., Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County and the County of Santa Cruz for co-hosting this event with CWC!
Following the tour, you can stay to hear Singing by the River by Heather Houston and Yala Lati: Women’s Global Music Choir. Meet on the Riverwalk behind the Kaiser Permanente Arena at 2:30 p.m.
