Statement by Robert Singleton, Government Affairs Director, SCCAR

The Santa Cruz County Association of Realtors® enhances the professionalism and integrity of our members, promote homeownership and protect private property rights in our community. We are always looking to keep our partners and clients informed about local issues, and in particular, issues related to our local quality of life and environmental protection. The people who choose to live in Santa Cruz County and buy a home here have a deep appreciation for our natural beauty and care about maintaining and preserving our shared natural resources. As community representatives and stewards we have a duty to become educated about environmental quality and spread this information throughout our home County.

Accordingly, the Santa Cruz County Association of Realtors® is happy to host representatives from the Coastal Watershed Council and the City of Santa Cruz for an educational seminar on local water quality and how each person can make a difference in the health of local streams. Specifically, the presentation will focus on how the sewer system can impact our local watersheds and the San Lorenzo River, in the context of the City updating its sewer lateral program ordinance. The new ordinance will require inspection of a home’s sewer lateral at or immediately after point of sale. The event is available to all members of the Santa Cruz County Association, and is taking place on August 28th, from 9-11am at our offices at 2525 South Main Street in Soquel.
