The South Fork of the American River is quite different from our Central Coast. CWC team members had an opportunity to raft down a stretch of that powerful, beautiful river on a recent weekend, offering us a unique chance to compare and contrast this major watershed to our local ones – plus enjoy some team building, fun and excitement!
We put in near Coloma, floating through class 1, 2 & 3 rapids. Swimming holes, cliff jumping and an exciting rescue of an overturned raft were some of the highlights of our Saturday on the river. CWC staff joined a group hosted by the Tuolumne River Trust, an organization with a decades-long track record of protecting a key watershed that flows from the Sierra through the Central Valley to San Francisco Bay.
Thanks to the TRT team for welcoming CWC for some blissful time on the water and some reflection and learning about how others are also working to protect watersheds. We invite you to learn more about how you can perhaps one day paddle the lower San Lorenzo River too. We hope you have similar fun outings on the water this summer, locally and wherever you find yourself appreciating a watershed.
