Trees to Seas Series: Improving the Health of the San Lorenzo River Watershed

Since 2014, the San Lorenzo River Alliance have been working to address bacteria levels in the San Lorenzo River. Made up of stormwater professionals and water quality experts from the City of Santa Cruz Public Works and Water Departments, City of Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz County Environmental Health, Surfrider Foundation and the Coastal Watershed Council, the Alliance uses water quality monitoring to identify where bacteria is coming from in our watershed. Results from 2014 and 2016 studies are being used to inform best practices to reduce future bacterial deposition.
During the lecture Improving the Health of the San Lorenzo River Watershed, Coastal Watershed Council River Scientist Alev Bilginsoy will present on findings from the most recent 2016 monitoring study and the launch of a new public information campaign. Learn about water quality threats facing your San Lorenzo River and it’s tributaries like Carbonera Creek and what we can all do it improve the watershed’s health.
