Snapshot Day Training – Evening
April 24, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Join us on April 24 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM for Snapshot Day 2019 Volunteer Training.
This training will prepare you to be a stellar Snapshot Day volunteer, collect high-quality data and have a fun time at Snapshot Day, on May 4. During this training, you will hone your skills as an environmental scientist by learning the various components of a healthy watershed and practicing techniques for temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, electrical conductivity, and transparency and sample collection.
The training will occur along the San Lorenzo River in downtown Santa Cruz. We will meet at the San Lorenzo Park Duck Pond located at 137 Dakota Avenue and start the training promptly at 6 PM. Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled in. We will then walk across the river at the Chinatown Pedestrian Bridge and walk to the beach below the bridge, demonstrating water quality monitoring methods in the water. You can see the exact location of the river-based training by clicking HERE.
About Snapshot Day:
On the first Saturday in May each year, hundreds of volunteers join the Coastal Watershed Council and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary staff to take a “snapshot” of the health of rivers and streams flowing into the Sanctuary.
This favorite event draws people of all ages from all over California’s Central Coast to collect scientifically valid water quality data and to learn more about their local watersheds. Data collected by Snapshot Day volunteers are used to drive action for clean water. Data from field measurements and lab analysis are collected and analyzed to determine the biggest threats to water quality and best management practices to address them. Together with local experts and our partners in government, CWC uses that data to drive improvements in our stormwater infrastructure and also manage erosion and stormwater runoff which are threats to clean water.
At this time, Snapshot Day teams are at capacity. You can add your name to the waitlist by filling out the form below. If you are interested in volunteering for a San Mateo or Monterey County team (there are still spots available!) please indicate that in the notes.
