The Santa Margarita Groudnwater Basin is the major water source for communities in the San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley, the City of Santa Cruz and unincorporated areas of the County of Santa Cruz.

SQWA is a Groundwater Sustainability Agency formed in June 2017 and includes Scotts Valley Water District, San Lorenzo Valley Water District and the County of Santa Cruz.
