Exploring the San Lorenzo River Series Tour: Riparian Plant Walk

February 24, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

About this tour…

Join us for a hands-on exploration of the plants along the lower San Lorenzo River. Learn about the role of native and invasive plants in this urban river landscape. Learn about plant physiology, historical and medicinal uses and the role plants play in the river ecosystem.  Take home a San Lorenzo souvenir – you’re very own plant print! This tour will be led by Max Landon of Groundswell Ecology.

Please wear layers and sturdy shoes for this tour. If you would like to take notes please bring a journal and pen. Prior to the tour, we recommend downloading the iNaturalist app to your phone. This program is an excellent tool for plant identification and gathering environmental data.

The tour will occur on the San Lorenzo Riverwalk. We will meet here across from Trader Joe’s near the Chinatown Bridge (pedestrian bridge).

About the series…

The Coastal Watershed Council and Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History are teaming up again in 2018 to bring you a nature series unlike any other. Exploring the San Lorenzo River Series connects you with local naturalists, leading experts, scientists and artists while exploring the banks of the San Lorenzo River. Learn about the birds, bugs, fish, flora and fauna of the San Lorenzo River with the whole family. Tours are open to all ages and will be hosted every Saturday, from February 3 to Earth Day on April 22.
