Community Paint Day for the San Lorenzo Park Serpent
June 4 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Free
Help to Paint the San Lorenzo Park Serpent!
Volunteers are needed for this community project to revitalize this beloved play structure in San Lorenzo Park (137 Dakota Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95060). San Lorenzo Park is the largest park in downtown Santa Cruz, directly adjacent to the San Lorenzo River and diverse riverside neighborhoods. The park was created in the redevelopment project following the catastrophic 1955 flood, and its star attraction since 1964 has been its playground’s community-painted “Lorenzo the Serpent” play structure. The Coastal Watershed Council (CWC) and the San Lorenzo Park Neighbors (SLPN) will partner with the City of Santa Cruz and artist Miguel Franco to restore and paint the 60-year-old cement sea serpent in the children’s play area of San Lorenzo Park.
We are seeking volunteers to help pick up a paintbrush and bring this beautiful design back to life! Two shifts of volunteers are needed on Sunday, June 4th:
- 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or
- 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Lunch will be provided for volunteers at 12:30 p.m. by Hotel Paradox. Additional sponsors for this event include the Arts Council Santa Cruz County. Thank you, sponsors!
